SunActive IsoQ is available to the U.S. dietary
supplement market exclusively through NutriScience Innovations
Taiyo is introducing SunActive IsoQ, a water-soluble form of isoquercitrin (a quercetin precursor) with quercetin bioavailability that is many times higher than free quercetin. SunActive IsoQ is the first ingredient in Taiyo’s new series of enhanced bioavailable flavonoids.
Produced with a novel delivery system that enables manufacturers to use a lower dose for greater benefit. Patented SunActive IsoQ is now available to the U.S. dietary supplement market via NutriScience Innovations, Taiyo’s exclusive partner in the U.S.
Quercetin is a multi-functional health ingredient
Quercetin, a flavonoid found most abundantly in capers and onions, and known for its wide-ranging health benefits including immune health, sports performance, antioxidant, cardioprotective, chondroprotective and allergy relief benefits, was the subject of more than 2000 published papers in 2020 alone. Despite a recent surge in demand, driven by the focus on immune health, free quercetin’s taste, solubility and bioavailability issues have long been obstacles for formulators.
Taiyo solves these issues with SunActive IsoQ
SunActive IsoQ is derived from rutin (extracted from the flower buds of the Japanese Pagoda tree) using Taiyo’s patented, solvent-free, enzymatic process. The result is a water-soluble dietary ingredient, chemically identical to isoquercetrin found in nature. Utilizing a unique microencapsulation technology allows for it to be well absorbed and then highly converted to free quercetin in the body as demonstrated in a human clinical study. SunActive IsoQ is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by a panel of independent experts.
“Improving the bioavailability of quercetin is a highly sought-after benefit to brands trying to formulate with quercetin and consumers who want effective results,” observes Taiyo International Vice President Scott Smith.
Published studies confirm the advantages
SunActive IsoQ has been evaluated in a clinical study with healthy human volunteers. The results, published in the Journal of Functional Foods, confirmed that SunActive IsoQ showed significantly higher bioavailability – 25 times higher than free quercetin. This allows for a 100 mg dose of SunActive IsoQ to deliver the equivalent of 275 mg of bioavailable quercetin providing significant formulation benefits.
Alan Yengoyan, CEO of NutriScience Innovations notes that “this new innovative delivery form for quercetin will be sought-after by brands because of its ease of formulation in powders, capsules, gummies, soft chews and beverage applications. NutriScience will work with brands to maximize the benefits while minimizing the formulation challenges.”
Smith concludes, “Taiyo has committed to expanding our bioavailable flavonoid series and exploring the health benefits with clinical studies to open new horizons for sports nutrition, cardiovascular health, immune health, healthy aging and more.”
